You’re right. We do need poetry now. After reading your fine essay, I was feeling somewhat guilty because I rarely read poetry anymore - but then I remembered the Psalms. I read them often, do they count as poetry? As a young person I loved the “story” poems like “The Highwayman” or “The Wreck of the Hesperus”. A good poem, like a good song has a cadence which sinks into your mind, making it a great memory tool, which can and should be put to use for our benefit. Thank you for reminding me of the usefulness and beauty of poetry.
